Christiania Brewery
At Christiania Brewery, traditions are turned upside down, and hemp is allowed to play the leading role in a range of beers that both surprise and tell a story about the place where they are created.
In the middle of the Christiania Free Town lies Christiania Bryghus, a small brewery with a rather ambitious mission: to let hemp leave its mark on every single beer. This is not a gimmick, but a serious craft where hemp provides aroma, flavour and identity.
The story begins around 2017, when friends Allan and Carlo from Christiania, Niels from Jutland and Domas from Lithuania decide to create the free town's first local brewery. The idea does not arise in a cloud of smoke on Pusher Street, but over a glass of strong whisky, where they agree that all their beers should be brewed with hemp.
Since opening, Christiania Bryghus has become a regular haunt for both locals and curious beer nerds. In the taproom The Lab at Mælkevejen 81A, you can taste everything from light lagers to strong IPAs and stouts, all with their own hemp twist. Here, experimentation is part of everyday life, and new brews are constantly appearing on tap.
The brewery is also deeply rooted in the community. You can buy shares and become part of the BrygNitterne club, get discounts at the bar and be invited to special events. Christiania BeerWalk takes guests around the free town with a glass in hand, while guides tell stories about the area and the beers. On social media, the brewery shares glimpses from the brewery, new labels and events, and it all exudes the same free town energy as the streets outside.
In short, Christiania Bryghus is Christiania in liquid form: freedom, creativity and community bottled.
